Patrick Sink: President MBM Excavation

I grew up right here in Bend, graduated class of '89 from Bend High and, because it made sense at the time, I went straight into construction work the day I got out of school. I would not say it was the best idea I ever had but I figure every person is given a few special skills. I was not gifted with the hands of a surgeon or the looks of a model, instead, I have a special gift for machinery and its applications. Its not bad, at least I get to build things, and sometimes tear them down, which is quite satisfying.

My Resume Would Read:

Over the past 30 plus years I have been a part of all phases of commercial and residential construction. While my resume would only describes me as a heavy equipment operator proficient with cranes, excavators, dozers, loaders and anything else that has ever been painted bright yellow, it would also mention I know plumbing, electrical, landscaping and basically anything else building trade related. Above that I have acquired many other skills along the way. Excavation work has always been seasonal leaving the winter months open to try new things. During these off times I have mostly done mechanic work but I have had a few seasons where I learned some new stuff. In the mid 90's I worked with a framing crew and learned to build houses. In the late 90's I took on an apprentice electrician position and learned how most wiring works then for some reason became a licensed realtor for a few winters. Some time later I spent a winter doing low voltage telecommunications installation and most recently I rounded off my ecliptic skills by owning and operating a motorcycle shop until the economy tanked. That last one was fun but excavation is what I do, not sales, so back to the trenches, pun intended.

So that leads to the question "why hire me, why MBM Excavation"? Why not, I have equipment and I am good with it. Every company I have worked for be it an underground utilities company, commercial or residential development or quarry company has been a learning experience on new equipment. Throw in a large dash of my desire to learn new things and that I pay attention to all aspects of the construction site around me, and there you have it, I ended up a well rounded treasure trove of the building trades with a special skill set with heavy equipment. The only reason I did not become a contractor sooner than 2011 is I’ll be damned if it was not a huge expense to become an excavation contractor. 100k will barely buy a mini excavator, 40 k gets you a truck and trailer to haul it with and the list just goes on from there. I saved for years for this and now that I can bring my special skill set to your job site and make a living, I am living the American dream, at least for me. I love this work.
